New article »The Socialist International« published in EGO
The article about the Socialist International by Bernd Rother is now available in English at EGO. Rother summarizes the history and development of the workers’ movement, which was established in 1864 as the »International Working Men’s Association«. The »Second International« founded in 1889 was only a loose affiliation of independent national parties. Though it had little influence on the policies of its member organizations, the debates did formulate standards for ideal socialist action. After the disintegration in 1914 in course of World War 1, there was a new start in 1951 with the »Socialist International«. The article traces the different phases of the association until the end of the 20th century.
