»Controversia et Confessio«

The research project “Controversia et Confessio” is based on a bio-bibliographical database, which is fully searchable on the project’s online. The bibliographical part of the database lists more than 2000 prints of pamphlets and thus contains a comprehensive list of such theological tracts from the period 1548-1577/80.

In addition to listing the author, title, length, format, printer, place of printing, year of publication, library shelf mark, and (where available) the VD 16 number, the database also usually offers an image of the title page, and frequently information on the content and links to a digital reproduction of the complete text. In the biographical component of the database, there are more than 220 biographical sketches of the most prominent theologians who participated in the controversies. Additionally, the internet presence of the project offers a digital version of the printed volumes, which are made available in open access as they are published. It also offers an unconventional peek into the research and critical edition work of the project in the “Swear word of the month” (Schimpfwort Des Monats) section.

The varied research options facilitated by the database enables access for diverse research perspectives and interdisciplinary questions.
