»Τhe image of Byzantium in the church historiography of the 19. and 20. Century. A comparison of german and greek sources.«

Within the framework of the projekt "Τhe image of Byzantium in the church historiography of the 19. and 20. Century. A comparison of german and greek sources" it would be focuse, on how the byzantine empire and its fall was treated in the Greek speaking regions as well as in the West, from the theologians and intellectualls of the 19. and 20. Cenutry.
Νot only the comparison of the greek sources with the sources of the West is of a big importance, but it is also important to investigate, how the greek theologians were influenced by the theogians from the West, in particular that from Germany, especially after some of them haved studied and lived in german-speaking areas.
The historical backgrund will be also given in detailed because it will help us to understand and interpretate the different theological views and the eclesiastical event in that time.
In general the image of Byzantium was hardly examined not only in the german but also in the greek church-historiography based on sources of West-Europe of the 19. and 20. Centure, which it will be the main goal of the present project.
