| "Renata Ruiz Figueroa is a historian trained at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and a PhD candidate in Latin American and Iberian Cultures at Columbia University. Bridging environmental humanities, agrarian history, and visual studies, her work examines how Mesoamerican and Western modern conceptions of nature, possession, and labor shaped territorial and ecological relations in Mexico as modern property regimes took shape between the sixteenth and twentieth centuries. Her research has been supported by Columbia’s Incite Institute, the Institute of Latin American Studies, and the Center for Science and Society, as well as the Tinker and Mellon Foundations." |
