Discussion: "Let's talk about Europe!" - Federalism and Centralism in Cultural Policy - European Experiences
Venue: IEG, Domus Universitatis, Alte Universitätsstraße 19, 55116 Mainz, and digital. A joint event series of the Leibniz Institute for European History (IEG) Mainz and the Landeszentrale für politische Bildung Rheinland-Pfalz (LpB) in cooperation with the Institut français Mainz. The discussion evening is part of the event program of the anniversary "75 years of Rhineland-Palatinate". German cultural policy is strongly influenced by federalism, while centralism prevails in many other European countries. What advantages, what disadvantages do the differences have for the promotion and development of culture? How relevant is culture for societies, especially in times of crisis? What role do institutions play that are supposed to mediate culturally between different countries? Can culture be exported? What does German or Italian and French "culture" mean in the 21st century? These questions will be discussed as part of the series "Let's talk about Europe!" Professor Immacolata Amodeo, director of the Ernst Bloch Center in Ludwigshafen, and Sylvain Thollon, director of the Institut français in Mainz. The discussion will be moderated by Professor Johannes Paulmann, Director of the Leibniz Institute for European History. The event is planned as a face-to-face event with the possibility of digital participation. Participation is free of charge. For registration please send an e-mail to info@ieg-mainz.de.
