Event language: German You can visit the exhibition online: << https://ausstellungen.deutsche-digitale-bibliothek.de/ieg2020/ | https://ausstellungen.deutsche-digitale-bibliothek.de/ieg2020/ | _new >> Photo: (Luftaufnahme) Domus Universitatis und Mainzer Innenstadt nach Luftangriff 1945, unbek., Foto, o.D. [vor 1952], Universitätsarchiv Mainz The exhibition on the occasion of the IEG’s 70th anniversary serves as an introduction into the institute’s development from the Cold War to European upheaval in 1989/1990. Founded by the state and the occupying powers only five years after World War II, research at the institute was meant to focus on the overcoming of historical, religious and cultural differences in Europe. The exhibition retraces the stimulus for the foundation and the twofold structure of the institute. It shows how the institute legitimized its »European mission« and coped with the »burden« of National Socialism. Since the 1950s, the institute’s members have been living and working under the roof of the Domus Universitatis. The international fellowship programme has been a cornerstone of the IEG from the beginning. You want to know how the institute became an international hub for the Humanities, or why it was a »window to the west« for Eastern European academics since the 1960s? Visit our exhibition and learn more. The exhibition will be introduced by its curator Dr Joachim Berger. Due to limited entry, participants must register in advance (Tel: +49 (0)6131-39 393 50, info@ieg-mainz.de). Please note that admission to the exhibition is only possible under the current health regulations. A second introduction will take place on 7th of December at 17:00. Admission is free for all introductions. The exhibition can be visited outside public introductions, either at the IEG after making an appointment, or online (starting September 12th, 2020): << https://ausstellungen.deutsche-digitale-bibliothek.de/ieg2020/ | https://ausstellungen.deutsche-digitale-bibliothek.de/ieg2020/ | _new >>.
