Senior Research Fellow - Umar Ryad

We are happy to welcome Umar Ryad as Senior Research Fellow at the IEG. Umar Ryad is Professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the KU Leuven. His current research focuses on modern Islamic intellectual and religious history, Islamic polemics about Christianity, the history of Christian missions to the modern Islamic world, and transnational Islam in the Europe of the interwar period. During his time in Mainz, he will work on his research project »Europe and the Hajj in the Age of Empire: A Trans-imperial History«.
