Webinar "The Proto-Ecumenical Dialogue of Abba Mika’el, Martin Luther, and Philip Melanchthon" with Stanislau Paulau
IEG-colleague Stanislau Paulau will talk about his book "Das andere Christentum. Zur transkonfessionellen Verflechtungsgeschichte von äthiopischer Orthodoxie und europäischem Protestantismus" in the Webinar "The Proto-Ecumenical Dialogue of Abba Mika’el, Martin Luther, and Philip Melanchthon", co-sponsored by the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs (Georgetown University’s Department of Theology and Religious Studies). Paulau’s award-winning dissertation will soon be available at Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht.

The discussion of Protestant-Ethiopian Orthodox relations will highlight neglected contacts in the 1530s between Martin Luther, Philip Melanchton, and Abba Mika'el and look at the implications of Paulau’s paper and research.

The discussants are Rev. Dr. Dagmar Heller (acting director of the Institute for Ecumenical Studies and Research Bensheim), Solomon Gebreyes Beyen (research fellow at the Hiob Ludolf Centre for Ethiopian and Eritrean Studies, Hamburg University) and Tim Wengert (United Lutheran Seminary at Philadelphia).

Stanislau Paulau is member of the academic staff, Department "Abendländische Religionsgeschichte" at the IEG since March 2019. For his dissertation he has been awarded the Dissertation Prize of the Dr.-Walther-Liebehenz-Foundation 2020.
