»Das andere Christentum« by Stanislau Paulau: Longlisted for the RefoRC Book Award 2021
Congratulations! The new book "Das andere Christentum. Zur transkonfessionellen Verflechtungsgeschichte von äthiopischer Orthodoxie und europäischem Protestantismus" by Stanislau Paulau, member of the academic staff at the IEG, has been longlisted for the RefoRC Book Award 2021. The winner announcement will take place during the Annual RefoRC Conference on Early Modern Christianity, May 6-8, 2021.

As early as 1534, an Ethiopian monk traveled to Wittenberg to establish relations with Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon. The theological dialogue this resulted in marked the beginning of an entanglement in the history of Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity and European Protestantism. For the first time, the book presents the history of the manifold interactions of these Christianities, which have so far been studied separately, in the period from the 16th to the early 20th century and thus makes a fundamental contribution to the history of global Christianity. Methodologically, the work takes up the approach of histoire croisée and adapts it to a transconfessional church historiography.

Stanislau Paulau is member of the academic staff in the department "Abendländische Religionsgeschichte" at the IEG since March 2019. For his dissertation, which has been awarded the Prize of the Dr.-Walther-Liebehenz-Foundation 2020, has been recently published and is also available in open access.
