The IEG mourns the passing of Włodzimierz Borodziej
The IEG mourns the passing of Włodzimierz Borodziej, professor at Warsaw University and former member of the Institute's Academic Advisory Board. As an expert on Polish, German and East-Central European history, his invaluable contribution to German-Polish academic cooperation was essential to the reconciliation and communication of German-Polish history. Last spring, he was awarded the International Research Prize of the Max Weber Foundation at the Historical College Munich for his exceptional accomplishments in research, promotion of young scholars and academic cooperation.

Włodzimierz Borodziej was a member of the IEG's Scientific Advisory Board from 2006 to 2011. He was a fellow at the IEG in 1983 and 1986. The German translation of his dissertation (Warsaw, 1984) " Terror und Politik. Die deutsche Polizei und die polnische Widerstandsbewegung im Generalgouvernement 1939 – 1944 [Terror und Politik. The German Police and the Polish Resistance Movement in the General Government 1939 – 1944]" was published in the VIEG series in 1999.

We express our heartfelt condolences to his family.
