Call for Proposals HERMES Research Study Programme for Data Competencies in the Humanities and Cultural Sciences
Following a successful first phase, the HERMES-Datenkompetenzzentrum für die Geistes- und Kulturwissenschaften (HERMES Data Literacy Centre for the Humanities and Cultural Studies) invites researchers to participate in the second round of the research study programme at the Leibniz Institute of European History (IEG). Funding is available for research studies with innovative approaches that contribute to teaching data competencies, build on existing projects or expand them in a targeted manner and thus advance the digital research landscape in the humanities and cultural studies. Applications can be submitted until 24 March 2025 for funding to start on 15 May 2025.

Funding of €3,500 (incl. VAT) per study is offered, which is awarded via research contracts (no direct employment relationship). The studies must be carried out by 15 October 2025, which corresponds to a maximum study duration of six months. The results must be available within this time frame and published digitally in order to be made accessible to the scientific community.
Researchers can apply individually or as a group for one or more of the study types. A combination of several study types is also possible, provided that the objectives and results are achieved. Find out more in the PDF below.

HERMES, short for Humanities Education in Research Data and Methods, is a BMBF-funded joint project focussing on establishing spaces for learning, researching, and networking in the humanities and cultural sciences. The aim of HERMES is to teach, develop and critically reflect on data literacy. In pursuit of this objective, HERMES designs and develops various innovative formats. In addition to the Leibniz Institute of European History, the University of Marburg, the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz, Mainz University of Applied Sciences, the German National Library, the Herder Institute for Historical Research on East Central Europe in Marburg, the Technical University of Darmstadt, Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and the Trier University are involved in HERMES. The contribution of the IEG Mainz to this project focuses on the implementation of the Bring-your-own-data-Labs (in collaboration with the University of Trier) and the Fellowship and Study Program (in collaboration with the German National Library).
