Institute for European History receives TOTAL E-QUALITY award for the fourth time
The Leibniz Institute for European History (IEG) in Mainz has been awarded the TOTAL E-QUALITY award for the fourth time in a row for its equal opportunity-oriented personnel and organizational policy. The award is valid for the years 2025 to 2027 and recognizes the institute's special commitment to equal opportunities, diversity, and family friendliness in the workplace.

The jury particularly praised the strategically sound and structurally anchored equality work at the IEG. The institute fulfills the TOTAL E-QUALITY standards in the relevant fields of action in an outstanding manner. Examples include the clear anchoring of equal opportunities as a management task, the institutionally secured
equality plan, and the involvement of the equality officer in all human resources processes. Regular training for all employees and board members in gender competencies, as well as the targeted promotion of young female scientists for their careers in management positions, are forward-looking measures. The introduction of new training positions and scholarships for refugee researchers were also highlighted.

“We are delighted to receive this award again,” says Prof. Dr. Nicole Reinhardt, Director of the IEG. "It confirms our long-term commitment to a fair, diverse, and future-oriented work culture. It is particularly important to us that equality and diversity do not remain mere formal goals, but are lived out in everyday life."

With women making up 63% of its employees and 60% of its management, the IEG is a positive example of equality in academia. The IEG sees equal opportunity and diversity as an ongoing process.
