Research data

Research data is collected, generated and processed in numerous research projects at the IEG. The ever-growing amount of digital data challenges researchers how to collect, analyze, store, archive and make this data accessible and reusable. This creates new demands for the project design, for organizational processes and infrastructures of the institute as well as for historical methods dealing with digital research data.

With the institutional Guideline on the handling of research data, the IEG sets out the principles, responsibilities and framework conditions for a research data management that is responsible, transparent and sustainable. The position "Research Data Management" in the Digital Historical Research Unit | DH Lab supports the employees at the IEG in these tasks. The IEG promotes the publication of research data as an independent academic achievement and its reuse following the ideas of Open Access and the FAIR principles.

Research data are the foundation and result of historical research. The management of research data at the IEG is carried out systematically on the levels of individual projects, institutional responsibilities and discipline-specific implementation. The development of infrastructures and discipline-specific data management for the historically oriented humanities as well as the active shaping of cultural change are a crucial part of this concept. To this end, the IEG is actively engaged with numerous partner institutions at regional, national and international level, in particular the National Research Data Infrastructure Germany (NFDI).
