| Forschungsthema: | The Democratization of a Genre: The Establishment of the Early Modern Italian Portrait Drawing |
| "This project examines the development and establishment of the highly finished portrait drawing as an independent art form during the Italian Renaissance (1430s-1620s). It also undertakes a parallel inquiry into the expansion of the portraiture genre to include a more diverse range of sitters in Italy. The book explores the representation of economically, culturally, and racially diverse sitters—including workshop assistants, enslaved people, and non-Europeans—to reassess notions of identity and aesthetic worth." |
