Head of Administration

The Administrative Director of the Leibniz Institute of European History (IEG) in Mainz holds a key position with both strategic and operational responsibilities. The role encompasses the management of the Fellow and Guest Programme, the Library, IT coordination, Publications, as well as Human Resources & Organisation, Finance & Controlling, Estates & Internal Services, and IEG Connect.

Core responsibilities include coordinating administrative processes and, as the officer in charge of the budget, ensuring the efficient management of the Institute’s financial resources. Effective communication and collaboration—both internally and with external partners, including ministries and funding bodies—form the foundation of this work.

Further areas of responsibility include providing advice on legal matters, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, and minimising legal risks. The position also covers the strategic planning of long-term financial resources and risk management.

To foster innovation and sustainable success, the Administrative Director initiates change management processes, drawing on established quality standards. Promoting diversity and inclusion is likewise an integral part of the role, aimed at creating a diverse and inclusive working environment.
