EGOlink: Automatic analysis and expansion of the internal and external link structure in “European History Online”

European History Online (EGO) is a transcultural history of Europe on the Internet, published as an open access publication by the Leibniz Institute for European History. The success and growth of EGO presents the editorial team with several challenges. Since an important part of the concept is the close linking of the posts with each other and with external resources, each new post must be inserted into the existing link structure. In collaboration with the Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing Lab at TU Darmstadt, the EGOlink project developed methods for (partially) automated linking of articles in order to reduce the recurring manual effort for the editorial team and to optimize navigation for readers. EGOlink was funded as a pilot project by the Center for Digital Research in the Humanities, Social Sciences and Educational Sciences (CEDIFOR).
