What might a society look like that not only protects biodiversity but understands it as a foundation of social life? This question is at the heart of the conference “Living in Diversity: Vision and Practice of a Biodiverse Society”, taking place on 1 and 2 October 2026 at the Natural History Museum Mainz.
The two-day conference brings together scholars from a range of disciplines to discuss the social, ecological, legal, and cultural dimensions of a biodiverse future. Alongside expert panels, short presentations, and a guided tour of the Natural History Museum’s collections, one of the highlights of the programme will be a panel discussion entitled “A Biodiverse Society Is Possible?!”
The conference is organised by the Leibniz Institute of European History (IEG) in cooperation with the Leibniz Research Alliance “Value of the Past” and the Natural History Museum Mainz.
