Accessibility

Accessibility statement
The Leibniz Institute of European History (IEG) strives to make its website www.ieg-mainz.de accessible to all users. The legal basis for this is the State Law on the Equality of People with Disabilities (LGG-RLP) and the Rhineland-Palatinate Accessibility Ordinance (BVO-RLP) in conjunction with the state standard ‘Digital Principles’ (LS/DGS).
Scope
This statement applies to the website www.ieg-mainz.de.
Created on: 12 November 2025
Last reviewed/updated on: 20 November 2025
Status of compliance with the requirements of the BITV-RP
This website is partially accessible in accordance with the BVO-RLP in conjunction with the state standard ‘Digital Principles’ (LS/DGS).
The assessment is based on a self-evaluation dated 13 November 2025.
An external audit in accordance with LS/DGS is planned.
Non-accessible content (LS/DGS)
- Contrast ratios are insufficient in some cases.
- In some cases, form fields lack clear labels/instructions; in some cases, accessible names are missing from control elements.
- Some PDF documents are not accessible (e.g. missing tags). We can provide accessible alternatives on request.
Exceptions according to § 7 BVO-RLP (disproportionate burden)
Audio descriptions cannot currently be provided for some embedded YouTube videos. Reason: large inventory, third-party platform, limited resources. We provide subtitles/transcripts and deliver additional content descriptions on request.
Voluntary additional services
We are reviewing the provision of information in easy language and German sign language (DGS) for key content on the website.
Planned measures and deadlines
Contrasts: Adaptation of critical pages and components (by 30 June 2026)
Forms & labels: Complete recording, addition of clear labels/accessible names (by 15 February 2026)
PDF documents: gradual improvement or replacement with accessible versions (by 31 December 2026)
