Good Scientific Practice
As a member of the Leibniz Association, the Leibniz Institute of European History (IEG) adheres to the Leibniz Code of Good Scientific Practice. This code provides comprehensive guidance on scientific integrity and establishes binding standards. It specifies the criteria for good scientific practice, defines research misconduct, and outlines the role and authority of the central ombudsperson body of the Leibniz Association, which is equally binding for all Leibniz institutions. Through the Leibniz Code, the Leibniz Association implements the DFG Code of Conduct “Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice.”
To ensure the highest standards of good scientific practice, the IEG also maintains a longstanding cooperation with Johannes Gutenberg University (JGU) Mainz. Under a cooperation agreement renewed in 2023, the IEG formally recognises the regulations of JGU for safeguarding good scientific practice in their current form and applies them accordingly. The IEG obliges its academic staff to comply with these regulations. For questions concerning good scientific practice, IEG staff may consult the ombudspersons at JGU. The Commission for the Investigation of Suspected Scientific Misconduct is also available to the IEG.
