Finances & controlling

Finance and Controlling is one of the central service units of the Leibniz Institute of European History in Mainz and is responsible for managing the institute’s entire budget.

Its core tasks include financial accounting, budget planning, and the administration of third-party funds, which are essential for supporting numerous research projects.

In addition to processing expenses for materials and personnel and ensuring the smooth execution of payment transactions, the unit plays a crucial role in maintaining proper and timely accounting. Controlling activities also encompass the preparation and maintenance of detailed reporting, ensuring transparent documentation of the institute’s financial position.

The service unit provides active support for short- and medium-term financial planning to help the institute achieve its strategic objectives and make optimal use of its resources. It also assists procurement processes by ensuring that all relevant compliance and tendering requirements are taken into account for effective purchasing management.
