You may reach the IEG
on foot from Mainz Railway Station (10 mins):
Go towards the right on the square in front of the station (along the tram tracks) into Bahnhofstraße; cross Münsterplatz and walk along Schillerstraße as far as Schillerplatz (Fastnachtsbrunnen), turn left into Ludwigsstraße, and continue straight ahead as far as the theatre; go past the theatre and turn left again into Schöfferstraße / Alte Universitätsstraße. The Institute is in the former university building directly in front of you (building no. 19).

On foot from Mainz Hauptbahnhof (main station):
From the station forecourt, bear right along the tram line down Bahnhofstraße. Just before the main post office, turn left down Hintere Bleiche and follow this street. At its end, cross Kaiser-Friedrich-Straße and turn right for about 10 metres before turning left again and continuing down Diether-von-Isenburg-Straße. Building no. 9–11 is about 150 metres further on left-hand side, across from the Electoral Palace.
Take one of the following buses from Mainz Railway Station (bus stop in front of the station) to the bus stop Kaisertor/Stadtbibliothek:
– No. 9 (Direction Oderstraße)
– No. 58 (Direction Mombacher Kreisel)
From IEG bus stop Höfchen to the bus stop Kaisertor/Stadtbibliothek:
