"My dissertation aims to understand the Greek state formation in the first decades of the 20th century through a trans-imperial history. Using a multiscalar and polycentric approach that follows the trajectories of the intermediaries of Greek liberal power in the “New Territories” conquered over the Ottoman Empire after 1912, I try to identify the various types of governance experimented at the time: a potential “civilizing mission” inspired by colonial models; the pragmatic re-appropriation of Ottoman governance to manage the diversity of the populations administered; demographic engineering policies to finally Hellenize Macedonia through internal colonization."
