Workshop “The Political Ecology of Development: Knowledge, Actors, Practices in 20th Century Eastern Africa”

The Workshop “The Political Ecology of Development: Knowledge, Actors, Practices in 20th Century Eastern Africa” seeks to discuss and reflect upon the discursive power and political ecologies of “development” and “conservation” and provide bottom-up analyses of these constellations as forms of multispecies interaction and governance on the ground. Conveners: Clara Busin, École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales / IEG, Bernhard Gissibl, IEG, Hezron Kangalawe, University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania / IEG. Venue: Conference room DU.

We would also like to highlight that Dr. Hezron Kangalawe is currently a Senior Research Fellow at the IEG, where he pursues the project “Opportunities and challenges in the conservation sector in postcolonial Tanzania, 1961–2025.” His ongoing research will meaningfully inform both the conceptual framing and the discussions of the workshop.
