Fellowship and Guest Programme

IEG Alumni Association

The IEG Alumni Assoication emerged from the first alumni meeting in 2025 as an initiative aimed at supporting current fellows, fostering interaction amongst alumni, and promoting engagement with the IEG. The support is based primarily on values that express a sense of connection to the IEG, gratitude towards the institute, and a desire to support current fellows.

The membership of the IEG Alumni Association is open at any time to all IEG alumni, regardless of the duration of their funding, the funding programme, or the period of stay. To become a member, please complete the application form for membership of the IEG Alumni Association and send it to alumni@ieg-mainz.de.

Events with the IEG Alumni Association

As mentors, alumni provide support to current scholarship holders in the final stages of their doctoral theses, their research project or with other questions regarding their professional career. Whether this involves proofreading texts, discussing structure and chapters, or addressing other issues that arise – alumni support the fellows in line with their areas of expertise.

The Career Sessions offer current fellows the opportunity to learn more about the career paths taken by IEG alumni following their time at the IEG. The focus is not on the positions the alumni currently hold, but rather on the journey they took to get there. What was the process of completing their doctoral thesis like? Did they find it easy to secure subsequent employment after completing their thesis? What stages did they have to go through to reach their current position? In addition to gaining an insight into the stages of a career, a key focus is on the options available to scholarship holders outside the (university) academic field after completing their doctoral thesis.

If you are interested in speaking at such a Career Session as alumna or alumnus, please contact alumni@ieg-mainz.de.

Following the first alumni meeting in November 2025, another alumni meeting will take place at the IEG in 2026. Through talks, discussions and activities in Mainz, alumni (and fellows) will have the opportunity to catch up with one another, reminisce about the past, make new connections and gain new insights in current resarch topics.

Alumni are welcome to contact Frauke Pielhau at alumni@ieg-mainz.de with their own ideas for the program of the meeting.

In addition, other projects may be carried out at any time, subject to consultation with the spokespersons of the IEG Alumni Association and the Fellowship Office at the IEG. Please send any ideas, suggestions or input to alumni@ieg-mainz.de.
