IEG Researcher Dr Malin Wilckens Featured on the Podcast “Sone & Solche”

IEG researcher Malin Wilckens joined ethnologist Matthias Krings from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz as a guest on “Sone & Solche”, the podcast of the Collaborative Research Centre 1482“Humandifferenzierung” at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. The conversation explored fundamental questions in the history of science: Who studies whom? How have researchers investigated human origins, both in the past and today? How can scholars examine the history of their own discipline? And how can we approach historical experiences when those who lived through them are no longer available to be interviewed? The discussion focuses on the search for “our” origins, the history of science, and the emergence of scientific categories.

Malin Wilckens is co-leader of the IEG research project “Mensch werden, Mensch sein”, which examines the history of scientific research into human evolution. Her research interests include global history, global microhistory, and the history of racism. Her book “Sammeln, Messen, Vergleichen: Schädel, ›Rasse‹ und die Ordnung der Welt in der deutschen, US-amerikanischen und französischen Anthropologie (1780–1880)” was recently published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht.
