Institute

The Leibniz Institute of European History is the only research institute in the world dedicated to studying the social and religious foundations of European history since 1500 and is a key institution in both the national and international research landscape. The institute conducts and supports research that examines European developments in global contexts, applying transnational and comparative approaches. It is also engaged with current developments in the field of Digital Humanities.

Through its renowned fellowship and guest program, the IEG supports young international scholars who, during their stay in Mainz, become an integral part of the institute’s research community.

The institute is headed by its directors, Prof. Dr. Nicole Reinhardt and Prof. Dr. Johannes Paulmann.
