PD Dr. Thomas Weller, Research Fellow at the Leibniz Institute of European History (IEG), will speak on 17 April at the international conference “Las múltiples caras de la diplomacia: una revisión teórica de los enfoques metodológicos y avances historiográficos en el estudio de las relaciones exteriores durante la Edad Moderna” (16–17 April 2026) at the Universidad Autónoma in Madrid. The conference focuses on theoretical approaches to the history of early modern foreign relations. In his lecture, he will examine symbolic communication and material culture as new (or not entirely new) approaches within the cultural history of diplomacy.
Since 2008, Thomas Weller has been a Research Fellow at the Leibniz Institute of European History (IEG). He currently leads a project within the framework of SFB 1482 “Humandifferenzierung” on the topic “Religion and Ethnicity: Transatlantic Mobility and Human Differentiation in Colonial Spanish America.”
