| "My PhD research focusses on hunger and provisioning of the seventeenth century Dutch Atlantic world (ca. 1590-1674). I am interested in the question why the Dutch did not succeed to feed their Empire in a sustainable way. I combine insights from environmental history and food history with new methods from the digital humanities, including building a research database on Dutch Atlantic sources. Over the past few year, I have explored themes of colonial hunger, transplanting European agriculture and adaptation to Indigenous foodsystems." |
