We warmly congratulate Malin Wilckens on receiving the Johannes Zilkens Doctoral Award of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation 2025 for her dissertation “Skull Comparisons and the Ordering of the World – Racialization in Science (1780–1880)” at Bielefeld University. Malin Wilckens has been working as a research associate at the IEG since 2023. Her dissertation analyzes the scientific practices of “collecting” and comparing skulls within the interplay of global and micro history, developing from this a new understanding of 19th-century anthropological “racial theories.”
