Regular outbursts of anticlerical violence were a common occurrence during the political and cultural transformations that took place in the Spanish long nineteenth century. In this paper some interpretative notes of their nature and development will be provided as well as an analytical attempt to frame those riots and their impact in the process of secularization that took place over the same period.
