"Migrant Radio Stories is a digital history project exploring migrant radio in West Germany during the Cold War. The project will collect, analyze and contextualize the content of radio programs especially designed for Mediterranean migrant workers and more specifically Turkish, Greek, Yugoslav, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. Through a bottom-up approach accentuating the migrants’ perspective it also sheds light to the sending countries’ concerns about migration, integration and return. The timespan between 1960 and 1980 reflects the period of migrant presence in West Germany under the so-called Gastarbeiter system (organized and temporary labor migration) and the glorious days of radio."
